Five distinguished professors acknowledged for advancing academic excellence and community impact

The ÌÒ×ÓÖ±²¥ proudly announces the recipients of its 2025 faculty awards, recognizing exceptional contributions in scholarship, teaching, and service across the university community.

Corrine Lengsfeld, senior vice provost for research and graduate education and professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, was honored with the Faculty Service Award. Lengsfeld leads key research initiatives and has played a vital role in advancing the university’s research mission.

Suisheng Zhao, professor and director of the Center for China–U.S. Cooperation at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, has received the Distinguished Scholar Award. A leading expert on Chinese foreign policy and nationalism, Zhao is the founding editor of the Journal of Contemporary China and author of numerous influential publications, including The Dragon Roars Back (2023).

Helen Hazen, teaching professor in the Department of Geography and the Environment, received the Distinguished Teaching Award. She holds a Ph.D. in geography with a focus on health and environmental issues and is widely known for her engaging teaching style and contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Ally Garcia, adjunct faculty member in the Morgridge College of Education, received the Ruth Murray Underhill Teaching Award. Garcia’s commitment to adult education—and her leadership as state director for Adult Education Initiatives at the Colorado Department of Education—reflects her dedication to access and equity in education.

Alison Krögel, associate professor of Spanish with a specialization in Andean and Quechua literary and cultural studies, has been named the 2025 University Lecturer. Her scholarship and community engagement have earned international recognition, including honors from the Peruvian government for her work preserving Indigenous languages and cultures.

These distinguished faculty members exemplify the ÌÒ×ÓÖ±²¥â€™s commitment to academic excellence and public service. The university community looks forward to celebrating their achievements this fall.Ìý
